Uber new functionality

Image
It is pertinent to say that without drivers, there is no Uber. That obvious right? well, Uber just infused a new functionality to its app which they call COMPLIMENTS. Indeed, starting today, when you give your uber driver a Five -star rating, your app will ask you to provide them a little extra feedback which is not mandatory, but if choose, you can give them a sticker that says something like "Awesome or Thank you. Drivers will see these stickers and notes in the section of their app which will tally all the accolades  they receive. Importantly, it is important to pin point the fact that the whole idea was that Uber needed a way for riders to provide them more and meaningful feedback-not just bad, mediocre and good rides but for great, outstanding and exceptional ones Inpoint of fact, one thing all drivers want is feedback. They want to know how they're doing; how they can do better; what's the best practice. Indeed, with these new compliments, Uber sees it as a be...

Samsung says the Galaxy S7 isn’t prone to explosions

Image
Samsung came out on Friday with a brief press statement on the Galaxy S7 family meant to reassure owners and potential buyers. The announcement comes after a few reports detailed cases where Galaxy S7 versions exploded or caught fire, reminding people of Samsung’s massive Galaxy Note 7 recall. “Samsung stands behind the quality and safety of the Galaxy S7 family,” Samsung said. “There have been no confirmed cases of internal battery failures with these devices among the more than 10 million devices being used by consumers in the United States; however, we have confirmed a number of instances caused by severe external damage. Until Samsung is able to obtain and examine any device, it is impossible to determine the true cause of any incident.” The fact that Samsung had to release this statement suggests there may be people worried about the phone’s quality, and that’s something Samsung can’t afford right now. The Galaxy Note 7 already delivered a crippling blow to Samsung’s...

LinkedIn is now being blocked in Russia

Image
Russia's communications regulator has started to block LinkedIn in the country after a court ruling found the firm guilty of violating data laws. Roskomnadzor issued a short statement that cited the August decision of the Moscow District Court to block LinkedIn to protect Russian internet users' data. The ruling was upheld by Moscow city court on Nov. 10. In a statement to LinkedIn confirmed the block: “LinkedIn’s vision is to create economic opportunity for the entire global workforce. We are starting to hear from members in Russia that they can no longer access LinkedIn," a spokesperson said. "Roskomnadzor's action to block LinkedIn denies access to the millions of members we have in Russia and the companies that use LinkedIn to grow their businesses. We remain interested in a meeting with Roskomnadzor to discuss their data localization request.” The watchdog statement means ISPs in Russia will be forced to comply with the block within one d...

Move over Snapchat, there's another app where teenagers are flocking to post their selfie videos. With more than 100 million users worldwide, musical.ly is the first social media app out of China that's hit the jackpot in the United States. It's filled with teenage girls and 20-somethings making funny faces into their smartphone cameras as they lip sync and mime the lyrics of hit songs. The formula clearly works. Musical.ly has attracted celebrities like Ariana Grande, partnered with the NFL and turned several American teenagers into online stars. Its success as a Chinese app in the U.S. is "frankly unique," said Danielle Levitas, head of research at analytics firm App Annie.   Alex Zhu the co-founder and His team in shanghai launched the app in English and Chinese. Once the downloads in the U.S. started to take off, they decided to focus solely on that market. It's now where most of the app's users are based. Zhu describes Ameri...

WhatsApp launching Video Call

Image
WhatsApp is launching free video calling for all of its one billion users. On Tuesday, the social network announced the feature is rolling out to users across the globe — putting it in direct competition with Apple's FaceTime, and venerable chat app Skype. The feature will be available for users of the company's iOS, Android, and Windows Phone app — though it could obviously incur significant data charges, depending on user phone contracts. It's pretty simple — you just click the call icon like you already would to make a voice call then select "video call" to activate it. "Sometimes voice and text just aren’t enough," the Facebook-owned messaging app said in an emailed announcement. "There’s no substitute for watching your grandchild take her first steps, or seeing your daughter’s face while she’s studying abroad. And we want to make these features available to everyone, not just those who can afford the most expensive new phon...

Image
We all know the extraordinary story behind the Samsung note 7.
